Vegan MoFo, the Vegan Month of Food blogging challenge is taking place during the month of September this year. The massively packed month of Jewish Holidays – Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah – is ALSO taking place in Septmeber this year.
I usually try to participate in Vegan MoFo in some capacity, but when I saw the conflict with the timing I just put the entire thing out of my head. Participants need to commit to at least 20 blog posts during the month. There are barely 20 non-Holiday days! I do not use the computer on Shabbat or Holidays and many of my readership doesn’t either, so with so many of us being crazy busy cooking for our own families and guests, a blogging challenge seemed pointless and out of the question.
Right? right? Where were you to reinforce this logic in my time of weakness??
Because today, my kids went back to school for the year. And in the five minutes of class before they came back home again, I felt desperate for a “project” other than just preparing for the holidays.
So, I… ya know… signed up for MoFo!
I have been in a blogging rut, especially when it comes to blogging recipes which just take so long to write and post. So being forced to blog in such a challenging manner is either going to be an awesome creative burst OR an awesome crash and burn. Hopefully entertaining either way.
My plan, is to make some vegan versions of traditional Jewish, Israeli and Middle Eastern dishes. Today, I sat down with my calendar, pinterest, some cookbooks, and a whole bucket of insanity and mapped out a schedule. Then we had peanut butter sandwiches for dinner because I was too busy planning to actually cook anything. Not the first time this has happened!
Because time will be so short, I will not be able to do my usual recipe testing and perfecting. This is going to be a what-you-see-is-what-you-get,-even-if-it’s-a-spectacular-mess, kind of thing.
At the same time, I hope to use this month as an opportunity to showcase my beautiful country as well. We are more than our food, after all! I’ll take some pictures to show ya’ll around the place.
Or… if there’s another war, maybe I’ll blog about “eating vegan in the bomb shelter.” That’d be unique! (I’m kidding Mom!! Everything is going to be OK!)
September 1st. Be here!
