PB & J Smoothie

Whoa, what a day!

As if Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel isn’t difficult enough, then there was that other little thing, you know with the Navy Seals and Pakistan and…  yeah, I don’t want to talk about it here.  The linking now of the Holocaust and 9/11 is a leeetle too much for me to handle.  Am I happy?  Am I sad? Am I confused?  Am I hopeful?  Am I worried?

Yes.

Can we talk about food yet?  I mean, ya gotta eat.

I made this smoothie on the inspiration of my friend Jenn:

Drinkable PB & J

1 banana

1 cup strawberries (or raspberries, or blackberries, or whatever flavor of “J” you prefer)

1 cup almond milk (or whatever kind of milk you’ve got)

1 Tbsp peanut butter

1 Tbsp ground flaxseeds (optional)

1 Tbsp protein powder (optional) – I am using Sun Warrior these days

1/2 cup water or more to thin to your tastes

Blend everything and drink, yum.  Or blend without the strawberries, remove half to a glass, add berries and blend the rest.  (I tried to layer mine but it swirled instead.)  Put straw in glass.  Take smoothie back to bed.  Pull covers up to chin.  Sip smoothie and wait for tomorrow.

Oh, and this little ditty might help.  I’ve been humming it all day.  For those who do not understand the significance of the opening Hebrew section of this  song, Ani Maamin, on this day in particular, the VERY moving explanation is HERE.

Hi Em ! I LOVE your blog and your receipes. Tried lots and they ALWAYS come out scrummy. A question ??? Would it be possible to add the GL of the receipes ???? i know that I am asking a lot but…………

      Hi Debbie,
Thanks! Glad you like it here. I wouldn’t have the slightest clue how to calculate the GL though…

      • Emily Segal says:

But things you could do to lower the GL in this shake, would be leave out the banana, include the flaxseeds or psyllium or oats for fiber and definitely use a protein powder or some tofu.
